DK RM PGA TOUR Approach Pack Georgia Edition by the Numbers

Let’s start with the most important piece of information. I don’t want to bury the headline. Everyone is seemingly wondering the same question, are these packs worth buying this week?

I’ve run the numbers and you can see the expected value calculation outcome for each of the packs below. These calculations were based on Low Ask values in the marketplace as of this Monday morning, 4/3:

There is more to consider than purely expected value when assessing whether you want to purchase these packs, but using straightforward mathematics, they are +EV. Other things to consider when deciding to buy these packs include your current collection, budget, marketplace liquidity, the price impact that the increased supply has on the marketplace, marketplace fees, your interest in playing the game, etc. but overall the numbers tell a good story this week. Lastly, the Masters brings out one of the better fields in golf, while also being a relatively small in size. Only 88 golfers in total will tee it up, of which only 52 are included in RM PGA TOUR. Because it is both a small, and extraordinarily good field, better golfers are in this weeks’ Approach packs. I break down some nuance with how Approach set supply is released by golfer Group a bit later in the article, but the golfer by group breakdown for this drop is as follows is as follows:

Group 1 Golfers: 26 (50% of the drop)
Group 2 Golfers: 16 (31% of the drop)
Group 3 Golfers: 3 (6% of the drop)
Group 4 Golfers: 7 (13% of the drop)

Reignmakers PGA TOUR Approach Pack Drops – Detailed View

Getting into the details, there are some complexities with the Approach Set that I am attempting to break down in the most simple way possible. Approach packs will be available at the RARE, ELITE, and LEGENDARY tier for the next five weeks. There will also be REIGNMAKER auctions. Each week, the packs will only contain golfers that are playing in the upcoming event later that week. Max supply of each golfer in the Approach Set is guaranteed at all tiers and full season guaranteed scarcity (supply) is locked in at the ELITE, LEGENDARY, and REIGNMAKER tiers. You can see the Approach Set Supply and Full Season Scarcity in the graphic below:

Here is where we get our first twist. While the Approach Set supply is defined above, the full supply for each golfer may not be released depending on how many events a given golfer plays in the next five weeks. For golfers in Group 1 and Group 2, the full supply will only be released if they play three events in the next five weeks. For golfers in Group 3, the full supply will only be released if they play two events in the next 5 weeks. If any Group 4 golfer plays in one event in the next five weeks, their full supply will be released that week. It is worth nothing that three events in the next five weeks (Masters, RBC Heritage, and the Wells Fargo Championship) are considered elevated PGA TOUR events. Because of their elevated status, they bring large prize pools which in turn brings out the best players in the world (e.g., the Group 1 & 2 golfers). Therefore I expect many of the 209 RM PGA TOUR golfers to have their full Approach Set supply released in the next five weeks.
