NFL All Day Super Wild Card Playoff Drop

The first Super Wild Card Weekend meets the first NFL All Day Playoff drop for historic moments you don’t want to miss. My philosophy heading into this drop is to consider the play(s), the player, the rarity of the moment and the chance of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. The perfect moment would combine all four elements. I’ve included my ten favorites from a variety of sets and tiers, at the end I rank my #OTMtop3. Patrick Mahomes II*

NFL All Day Play Description: “Patrick Mahomes II put on a master class in playoff quarterbacking against the Steelers, completing 30-of-39 passes for 404 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception through the air. He completed passes to eight different receivers and added three rushes for 29 yards for good measure. Following his lead, Kansas City would go on to win, 42-21, and eliminate Pittsburgh from the playoffs on Jan. 16, 2022.”

Why I love it: Five touchdowns and over 400 yards from Patrick Mahomes, what’s not to like? Then factor in it is a Legendary melt and that the Chiefs have as good a chance as anyone to win the Super Bowl, this moment will be tough to beat.

Mac Jones

NFL All Day Play Description: “Mac Jones dropped this dime into a tight window in the back corner of the end zone, right into the hands of wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who pulled it in for the score. Jones finished 24-of-38 on the day for 232 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in New England’s 47-17 loss to Buffalo on Jan. 15, 2022.”

Why I love it: While this game was not one to remember for Mac Jones and the Patriots, it may be a good time to “buy low” on the rookie who put up an impressive rookie season. Plus we know this will be his only rookie playoff moment…

Josh Allen

NFL All Day Play Description: “Forget the single-digit January temperatures in Buffalo. Josh Allen wasn’t fazed, dicing up the New England defense for 308 yards on 21-of-25 passing and throwing five touchdowns. He also carried the ball six times for 66 yards, the true engine of the Bills’ offense. No play was more emblematic of that than his first-quarter touchdown to Dawson Knox, with Allen scrambling around to extend the play, only to softly float at touch pass to the back of the end zone to his tight end to open the scoring. Buffalo would go on to win, 47-17, on Jan. 15, 2022.”

Why I love it: A historic night for Bills fans as they have waited a long time to not only beat the Patriots in the playoffs but to do so in historic fashion. What better way to start a possible Bills Super Bowl run than an utter destruction of a Bill Belichick defense as the Bills became the first team to score seven touchdowns on their first seven drives in playoff history. This melt does a great job showing just how great Allen and the Bills were that night.

Ben Roethlisberger

NFL All Day Play Description: “Likely his last touchdown pass in an NFL game, Ben Roethlisberger floated this one up to James Washington and the receiver went up and got it, pulling it in, tapping two feet inside the boundary, and completing the catch for the score. Roethlisberger completed 29-of-44 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns in the game, a 42-21 loss to Kansas City that eliminated Pittsburgh from the playoffs on Jan. 16, 2022.”

Why I love it: Love him or hate him Ben Roethislibeger played the game’s most important positions for one of the league’s most notorious teams for the better part of two decades. His final touchdown would be a must own for any NFL fan.

Matthew Stafford

NFL All Day Play Description: “Matthew Stafford notched his first career playoff win in this victory over the Cardinals, going 13-of-17 passing for 202 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also carried the ball six times for 22 yards in Los Angeles’ 34-11 victory over Arizona on Jan. 17, 2022.”

Set: Super Wild Card Weekend Tier: Common SE # in Packs: 6,557

Why I love it: Being the #1 overall pick, making nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in career earnings and growing up best friends with Clayton Kershaw. It is hard to feel bad for Matthew Stafford but I think most everyone outside of Arizona was happy to see Stafford get his first career postseason win during Super Wild Card Weekend. This melt is already a must own for many in Los Angeles, Detroit and Athens but if the Rams were to make a postseason run it would skyrocket up the charts for everyone.

Joe Burrow

NFL All Day Play Description: “Joe Burrow escaped the collapsing pocket and extended the play as he rolled to the right. In the back of the end zone stood Tyler Boyd, who pulled in Burrow’s floating pass for the score. An inadvertent whistle on the play was, for a moment, a cause for discussion among the referees, who ultimately kept the touchdown on the board. Cincinnati would go on to win, 26-19, on Jan. 15, 2022. He finished 24-of-34 for 244 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.”

Why I love it: This play has a lot going for it. As it is the first playoff game for the former #1 pick, a pivotal touchdown to help the Bengals seal their first playoff win in over 30 years and some controversy as an inadvertent whistle was blown as Burrow was nearing the sidelines. This moment is valuable now but how might we look at this moment if it led to Burrow’s first superbowl the way the Tuck Rule game is remembered for Brady and the Patriots first superbowl? (Sorry Raider Nation)

Micah Hyde

NFL All Day Play Description: “Micah Hyde closed the gap quickly as he came over the top to help in coverage on this deep pass from Mac Jones. Tracking the ball over his shoulder, he pulled in the interception in the end zone on what would have been an impressive grab even for a wide receiver, let alone a defensive back. Hyde added two total tackles in the game, a 47-17 Buffalo win over New England on Jan. 15, 2022.”

Set: Super Wild Card Weekend Tier: Legendary SE # in Packs: 44

Why I love it: The play of Super Wild Card Weekend, when watching this live I thought for sure this was going to be a touchdown for the Patriots but Micah Hyde made an incredible play to get to the ball let alone come down with the interception. This play also set the tone for the evening as the Patriots never got closer than down seven as the Bills took out years of frustration out on the Patriots. Hyde put doubts in the minds of believers of the old adage “defensive backs aren’t wide receivers because they can’t catch.”

Odell Beckham Jr.

NFL All Day Play Description: “Odell Beckham Jr. did it all against Arizona. Toe-tap TD in tight space? Done. Big gain down the sideline to the doorstep of the end zone? Done. Throwing it deep across the field for a 40-yard gain to set his team up in the red zone? Of course, done. Beckham Jr. caught four passes for 54 yards and a score against the Cardinals, plus completed his lone pass attempt of the game for 40 yards in a 34-11 Rams win over Arizona on Jan. 17, 2022.”

Why I love it: OBJ is one of the more polarizing players in the NFL but it is hard not to love seeing OBJ do what he does best. This melt shows several of his highlight plays, including a trick pass. If you’re a Rams or OBJ fan it is hard to not see this melt at the top of your “must have” list.

Deebo Samuel

NFL All Day Play Description: “Deebo Samuel took the handoff out of the shotgun here and, just as it looked like he’d be brought down somewhere amidst the cloud of defenders along the near sideline, he cut it back toward the middle of the field and emerged untouched. One more cut between two Dallas defenders, a burst of speed, and he was gone for six. Samuel carried the ball 10 times for 72 yards and caught three passes for 38 yards in San Francisco’s 23-17 victory over Dallas on Jan. 16, 2022.”

Why I love it: There might not be a more dynamic offensive weapon remaining in the NFL playoffs. Simply put, if the 49ers make a postseason run Samuel will be a major part of the reason. This play highlights his skills and flexibility which gives his coach, Kyle Shanahan, limitless ways to utilize him.

Von Miller

NFL All Day Play Description: “Von Miller got low to drive his way around the edge en route to the quarterback. And before the play could develop for Arizona, he pulled down Kyler Murray for his first playoff sack since 2015. Miller registered six total tackles on the day, including three for a loss, in Los Angeles’ 34-11 win over the Cardinals on Jan. 17, 2022.”

Why I love it: Defense wins championships and that is what Von Miller is looking to do for a second time in his career. Miller is one of the most likable players in the league and many Broncos fans have become temporary Rams fans just to see Miller have another chance at a ring. On this play Miller brings down fellow one time Aggie Kyler Murray.
